United States of America, 1844.

The nation is moving west. Tensions over slavery are escalating. Technology, religion, and politics are rapidly changing. Through it all a uniquely American story is unfolding: shaped by his childhood on the frontier, James K. Polk becomes the President to push the United States to the Pacific.

Learn about a fascinating and pivotal time in U.S. history through the life and legacy of our 11th President. Our docents are passionate about history and this community, and ready to lead you on an educational journey through the Polk Home. Then explore the Sisters’ House, Polk Presidential Exhibit Hall, Garden, and Kitchen. Bring your questions and your curiosity!

Free parking is available in the lot across 7th Street or along High Street on the east side of the main house in designated spaces along High Street on the east side of the Polk Home, or in the Maury County Visitors Bureau lot across West 7th Street.
